MY STORY BY MONIQUE TERRAZAS Meet DJ Euphonik Music master and property investor T hemba Nkosi, better known by his stage name, Euphonik, is a man that inspires proud confidence South Africa’s youth. DJ, music producer, radio presenter, entrepreneur and property investor, Euphonik aims to “put smiles on people’s faces”. Born in Mpumalanga, Euphonik’s passion for music was ignited by artists his father listened to - the likes of The Spinners, Marvin Gaye, Stimela and Hugh Masekela. He went from playing at friends’ birthday parties in Benoni his early teens to gaining residency in Midrand club, Who Zoo. Euphonik first started remixing in 2003 and gained recognition in 2004 he and South African DJ, DJ Kent, joined forces to produce Kentphonik. Soon he started doing mixes on YFM and on his own show on 5FM, before being signed by record label, Soul Candi in 2006. His unique sound, characterised by upbeat music with elements of House, Electro and Dance, has gained a discerning amount of fans spanning five continents. Having released five albums to date, Euphonik has been nominated for the South African Music Awards as well as the MetroFM Awards. In 2014 he won the Metro FM award for Best Compilation Album. His name has been included in The Mail & Guardian’s 300 Young South Africans list. Euphonik has also represented his country on international soil, playing at some of the biggest parties and festivals in the world and opening for 38 September 2014 SA Real Estate Investor some of the biggest names in the electro music industry. Passionate about investing in the next generation of DJ’s, Euphonik also hosts a highly successful annual workshop for aspiring DJs called DJ101. Euphonik also recently founded record label, euNITE, which he intends using as a platform to promote up and coming artists. Euphonik considers himself a “DJpreneur” – a DJ first, an entrepreneur second. Music aside, he has established himself as a successful businessman. He has designed two pairs of unique Euphonik Superga sneakers, produces Euphonik Skopa snacks, runs a nightclub in Sandton and recently adding to his portfolio of business ventures, has opened a clothing store in Braamfontein with DJ Kent called Debut.
