The NDP document notes that legislation provides numerous avenues for citizens to participate. “All smart investors, innovative industry and business leaders, progressive communities and caring citizens will realise that this country faces massive challenges.” Forums such as school governing bodies, ward commit tees, communit y pol icing for ums and clinic committees provide voice to citizens and opportunities to shape the institutions closest to them. Communities can also participate in drafting local government plans. South Africa needs more jobs. Let’s not wait for government. How can we create more jobs in our industries, companies and communities? How can we grow our companies so that more people can be employed? How can we join forces through chambers of business and business associations to stimulate growth and employment in our own local communities? How can we replicate, for example, successful recycling projects that clean up the environment and recovers valuable reusable resources, while creating sustainable livelihoods?
