Douw Steyn’s R6, 5 billion City, endorsed by Madiba

F

ar away from the hustle and bustle of
Johannesburg’s city centre lies the Steyn City
estate. This self-contained city on the outskirts
of Johannesburg includes access to all amenities.
The estate is six times the size of Sandton City, four
times the size of Monaco and two and a half times the
size of Central Park in New York.
The project was endorsed by the late Nelson Mandela
and is collaboration between billionaire, Douw Steyn,
and visionary property developer, Giuseppe Plumari.
Trees from Mandela’s Houghton home were
replanted at the Estate by his wife, GraÇa Machel, for
his memory to live on.
Steyn City is the largest residential development in
Africa. “There is no development on the continent that
I know of, that compares in size and infrastructure to
Steyn City,” Plumari says proudly.
Plumari’s vision was to create a development that
creates connections between people, by developing a
sense of community and neighbourliness. In addtion
to, creating a safe place for residents to enjoy the ‘live,

work, play’ lifestyle without having to commute long
distances everyday between home and the office.
This mixed-use development is also a lifestyle resort
and parkland residence. The 2 000 acre estate includes
1 000 acres of extensive wooded parkland which
constitutes 50% of the development, making this the
largest woodland in Johannesburg. The resort’s wildlife
