How to Network Right
A natural networker, Olivia has the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. But unlike frequent attendees at networking events( those that have the superficial chat down pat), Olivia genuinely cares about who she’ s talking to. It’ s this ability to actually listen to what people are saying, without working out how to get the sales plug in, that has been part of Olivia’ s success with Real Entrepreneur Mums, and her business in general.
“ I’ ve been to networking events where the person you’ re speaking to has one eye on you and the other on the door in case a better prospect walks in. It’ s just bad manners and certainly doesn’ t win you business. Most women in business want to have a connection with who they’ re buying from, not be seen just as next month’ s sales target. You need to think about networking as building relationships, rather than the quick sell.”
Watching Olivia at a Real Entrepreneur Mum’ s Open Day is magic. She’ s always the first person to welcome somebody new into the room with a warm smile. Within minutes, she’ ll have them talking about their business and putting them at ease. The next thing you know, she’ s found someone they can connect with – whether it be through a shared business or social interest, and seamlessly provides the introductions. Before you know it, the shy, nervous newcomer feels like they’ ve always been a part of the Community and has made new friends in the process.
“ She knows everyone! If you’ re looking for a particular trade or skill set in the Hills area of Sydney, chances are Olivia will know someone. Or she’ ll know someone who knows someone and is happy to call her contact to find the name of the person you need. She’ s so generous with her time and her knowledge” – Nat Knight – Nat Knight Photography
Olivia doesn’ t just talk the talk of a Real Entrepreneur Mum, Olivia IS a Real Entrepreneur Mum. She is a woman juggling a dozen balls, including:
“”
Mother, wife, daughter, sister, business partner, P & C Vice-President, rugby club committee member … to name a few.
“ She genuinely wants to see you strive and shine in your business. You can always see her mind working to see how you can help others and how others in the community can help you.” – Pia Scott – Georgi Girl Designs
Steps Financial – Helping women find their financial feet
One of those roles is as a Director of Steps Financial. It’ s in this role that Olivia’ s abilities to listen to her clients and hear what they’ re not saying is so valuable. As the first point of contact, Olivia meets with her clients at their convenience and in their own surroundings, where they feel comfortable.
“ It’ s so important that your relationship with your financial planning team is a long-term one. A good planner will help you with many financial milestones in your life. You need to feel comfortable sharing details about your spending habits and your family’ s situation. A lot of people won’ t or can’ t do that in office setting, during office
