Mayo Wynne Baxter to co-host private practice experience day with LSMP
We ’ ve volunteered to participate in the Legal Mobility Partnership ( LSMP ), by cohosting one day of the week long experience offered to students , together with BHAFC at the Amex stadium . On 1 August 2017 , Trainee Solicitors at the firm shared their expertise and knowledge around the topic of How Legal Research Helps Us Advise Our Clients . Fellow co-hosts , Southern Water , provided an insight into inhouse legal work , resulting in approximately half a day from both involved . The LSMP is dedicated to broadening access to the solicitor profession by delivering work insight and skills training and ongoing alumni support to secondary state school students who will be the first generation in their immediate family to attend .

The LSMP starts with a week of intensive skills training coupled with work insights . In this week , students visit four different blue chip companies ( including , amongst others , Microsoft , Manchester City , Viacom , American Express , Yeo Valley , Amazon , BT , Aviva , Barclays and Adidas ), with a final day spent with a professional sports team ( including Harlequins , Leeds Rhinos , Brighton Hove Albion FC , Bristol Sport , Wasps and Manchester United ) learning about the psychology of resilience and goal achievement models .
The programme ’ s objectives are to :
• Break down both social and psychological barriers to entering the legal profession for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds ;
• Develop students ’ presenting , interviewing , influencing , resilience and negotiating skills ;
• Arm students with ammunition for CVs / Personal Statements and anecdotes to populate answers to competency questions asked at university and job interviews .
• With this being the first year that the scheme has extended its reach to Brighton , we provided a glimpse of private practice experience to sixth form students in Brighton and the surrounding areas . Twenty to thirty students were invited in from different backgrounds and of varying ages for an interactive day of activities and competitions . The day was held to help students consider law as a path and learn how they could move forward with it on a more confident basis .
