INTERVIEW WITH...

Rosemary A. Johns

Do you carefully select the character names in your books or just use the ones that pop in your head at the time?

I love choosing character names: every one has a special meaning! In REBEL ANGELS, the angels have angelic powers, so the names connect to those. The vampires choose their own names e.g Rebel or Anarchy. In REBEL VAMPIRES, Blood Lifers are rechristened with a name that has a special meaning to them e.g Light or Ruby. Discovering the back stories to these in their past lives (Victorian or Elizabethan), is part of the mystery and adventure.

What was the first job you ever remember wanting to have as a child?

Author! Before I could spell, my parents had to set me up with a pretend briefcase of papers, crayons, and desk to write. When I was five, I made a book, even including blurb and barcode, announcing I'd be a writer when I was older. My first short story was traditionally published in a magazine when I was fourteen. I sent it in pretending I was an adult. I've worked at other things along the way but I've always wanted to be a writer first!

Do you read all your reviews?

Editorial reviews are always interesting. I'm passionate about my writing and there's a lot of things that I care personally about in my books; I write because I want to make a difference. I love reading readers' reviews! If they've taken the time to write them, then I read them. They truly help authors, and I hugely appreciate them.
