This begins in the opening seen when he first refers to the girl as an animal who has yet to be tamed. Not only does it construct the female as an object of sex but it also sets a precedent of needing to dominate the girl in order to persuade her for sex. The animal that has yet to be tamed continues with the girls meowing, as well as, with their constume. It is apparent that these girls are merely pieces of flesh waiting to be tamed in the wild by and aggressive unrelenting male. Furthermore, Thicke clearly lets the girl know she wants it while pouring her shots to further intoxication. He is doing anything to sway this girl to giving up something that has been wrapped in plastic throughout the video. The plastic around the girl's genitalia insinuates that her breasts and vagina are un-opened items waiting to be taken. The message of this video is blatantly clear by now that in order to live a lifestyle like that of Thicke's and pick up women you must dominate woman physically and treat them like animals who have nothing to offer except their vagina and breasts. This music video is a prime example of the qualities men think they must have to pick up women. This is a great misconception within our society and usually results in the rape vibe that accompanies sexual violence and rape culture. Videos like this only continue to reinforce the idea that women are items of sex rather than people to be respected. Thus, woman are portrayed in a manner that reinforces the expectations of
men towards
women
and therefore rape
culture.
