Rap is one of the most misogynistic genres of music to date. It’s rare that you hear a rap song without the artist referring to a woman with derogatory labels. It’s raw and explicit, yet people can’t seem to stop listening. Why? It’s true. Genuine. Real. It loudens the voices of people who have been oppressed for centuries. The rhymes display the harsh conditions that continue to subjugate the oppressed to limited opportunities, and as an intersectional feminist, I believe that once the conditions in which black Americans have been forced to live in are discussed and solved, misogyny in rap will also start to become less of a problem.
