”She told me about the unit, but I never knew what was inside of it,” Mira says. ”After she passed away I found out the unit, and everything inside of it was passed on to me,” she continues.
For Mira who had thought the unit was filled with old dusty furniture from the 70's, it was quite a huge surprise when she found out what the storage unit actually held inside of it. ”There were loads of old things, and I mean old as in antique. Mostly paintings, but some small items too like jewelry, tea pots and vintage picture frames. I had seen all of that stuff at my grandmother's but little did I know one day they'd be mine,” she explains excitedly
At that time Mira couldn't afford to pay the rent of the storage unit nor could she fit all the things into 2her, or at the time, her parents' house, so she decided to sell most of the paintings and other items to empty out the unit.
”Selling most of it may seem like a cold-hearted thing to do, but I don't think I did the wrong thing. I obviously kept the items that had most emotional value to me."
Mira started off with Huuto.net, a Finnish online auction site similar to eBay. She sold most of the smaller items with astonishing prices both on Huuto.net and eBay. ”No way was I expecting to get 300€ by selling a tea pot!” she exclaims. ”The paintings and their frames were obviously valuable, a few were worth up to 500€,” she adds
