Rancho Margot: Diploma Project Nov 2013 | Page 26

Having made friends in the ranch and being involved with some of the activities there I felt the urge to learn as much from ranch and people as I could. The interviews helped me learn and understand more about the ranch. Occasionally I went around with the camera just trying to figure out how the device works. In the process I clicked and shot images and videos I wouldn’t have thought of taking. When I started editing the film, I realised I had a lot of footage that I could make use of and it was all up to my creativity to decide how I could compile a movie out of what I had filmed. Some of the footages I shot using my camera One of my friends, Nora, lent ne her go-pro camera when I had to film in the rain. The interview of Taylor and John(left) went on for about 40 minutes. I had 9 such interviews I could use in my movie. (Right) Workers planting baby plants into a greenhouse. My perception of an ideal movie changed during the project. I was aiming to create a really small yet catchy movie. I kept telling myself from the beginning that the movie that I shall make is going to be 2-5 minutes in length and challenged myself to develop make a really engaging and informative script. A really good friend I made in the Ranch named Theo helped me on my ideation process for the 2-5 minute film. I intended to make the movie in stop motion and I shot my footage keeping in mind a stop motion film. But the activity didn’t go along as well as I had intended. Nevertheless I made sure that I had long shots too. Eventually the videos I took in a long shot were the ones that I used. The movie that I ended up making was 9 minutes long. At the end of my project I’m happy and proud that my work has been approved by Mr. Travis Day, the marketing director of Rancho Margot and it will soon be put up on their website. 26
