QUESTION
Your production always had that distinctive sound which
made them stand out from many other records of the era.
This gave your releases what some would say a signature
sound which became recognizable to the DJ’s, MC’s and
ravers alike. What equipment were you using to make music
back then and how would you define the Ramsey & Fen
sound?
ANSWER
Our style had energy with a bumpy Skippy feel. We used the
usual bits Mackie desk, Akai samplers and various modules.
Same as today. lol
QUESTION
You also teamed up with MJ Cole on various works, most
notably under the alias of RAFMAT with remixes of ‘Quality’
and ‘Big Baby’ by Kym Mazelle. MJ Cole also appeared in the
production notes as the engineer of early Bug Records
releases. How did this relationship come about between you
and could you have predicted back then just how big of a
name he would go on to become in the world of UK Garage?
