Entrepreneurship categories
Katz and Green (2007:62) highlight five distinctive career paths for entrepreneurs:
● Habitual entrepreneurs – these are owners for a lifetime, at times in one
business, occasionally across multiple businesses. The purpose of habitual
entrepreneurs is personal satisfaction and thereafter income. Typically there is
no continuation plan.
● Growth entrepreneurs – these are also referred to as lifetime owners whose
purpose is first and foremost success.
● Harvest entrepreneurs – these are owners who have an exit plan.
● Spiral or helical entrepreneurs - alternating periods of growth and stability, this is
ultimately determined by personal or family necessities.
● Occasional entrepreneurs - individuals who have a career and proceed along
the path of entrepreneurship sporadically.
