A little story never hurt anyone...
‘Never judge a book by it’s cover”
Illustrated By: Catherine Grinstead
With age, maturity and general ‘growing up’ I have come to
learn, that old little quote ‘never judge a book by it’s
cover’ that my favorite nursery teacher used to preach to
us during every ‘circle time’ session, applies truth into so
many things. It never really became apparent until
experience with different people and situations passed
me by, but I’ve grown to realize that the nursery school
teacher had a good heart, and that (what used to be a
repetitive quote) has actually grown into a life lesson.
Being young and somewhat naive back in school, it was one
of the worlds most important things to ‘fit in’, in terms of
fashion, personalities and personal interests, being apart of
the ‘popular group’, was always an aim in life. Being apart
of the said ‘popular group’ looking back, was amazing, having
a group of friends that all shared the same interests, a
group of people whom adopted the same sense in fashion
and style was perfect!
It was only a few years down the line, when I came to the
realization that we didn’t actually share the same
interests, we were just ‘following the crowd’, and we were
in-fact doing everything in our nature to be the same as
everybody else. This isn’t to say that it was necessarily
a bad thing, sometimes it’s nice to have a feel of comfort
and security through ‘fitting in’, and back then it was the
norm.
