Case Study - SAC Sneddon
SAC Sneddon joined the RAF Medical Reserves 2 years ago as an RAF Medic with 612 Squadron . He wanted the opportunity to practice his paramedic skills in hostile and potentially dangerous environments . Futhermore the RAF could provide a platform for personal and professional development to enhance skills , such as leadership and clinical ability .
Last year he had the exciting opportunity of Adventure Training in the Bavarian Alps , where he experienced Via Ferrata for the first time . He found himself dangling from a cliff face with a 1000m drop at his feet , this he found to be the most thrilling experience of his life which tested his ability to control fear .
SAC Sneddon has recently provided medical support for the RAF Regiment during a training Exercise in Albania . The Flight he was assigned to approached him with all manner of questions regarding their health . He also provided advice on health protection , hygiene and peer to peer support regarding the recognition of illness and injury .
Heat illness was the greatest threat , followed by musculoskeletal injuries , snakes and inspect bites . He found it a real challenge treating casualties with what limited equipment he could carry out on patrol . This demonstrated his management and forward planning , skills he would have been taught during his extensive RAF training .
