TALKING TRICHOLOGY

Racoon International’ s is the only extension system to be given the thumbs-up by Independent Trichologist Iain Sallis. We thought you’ d like to know a little bit about him and get the definitive answers to some common questions and urban myths.
Having studied trichology since 1999, Iain Sallis M. I. T is now Consultant Trichologist for several private hospitals and he operates the largest group of trichology clinics( currently 10) across the UK, from London to Lincoln, Nottingham to Harrogate and several stops inbetween.
A walking encyclopaedia on hair related issues, from thinning hair to excessive hair loss, patches of baldness to scalp scaling and excessive oiliness, conditions Iain deals with every day include psoriasis, hair loss, alopecia and baldness.
Frequently quoted in a variety of publications, including Hairdresser’ s Journal, Sunday Times Style and Marie Claire, Iain, who has also appeared on news programmes and documentaries says:“ Strangely, hair loss is still a relatively taboo topic for many people, despite great interest in celebrity hair matters, such as Gail Porter’ s alopecia and Wayne Rooney’ s transplants.
“ People are surprised to learn just how many face hair loss issues. One in three women suffer hair loss problems at some point in their lives, with the majority of men susceptible to male pattern baldness or similar,” says Iain.
“ I spend a lot of my time advocating good hair health and informing the public about the dangers of constant styling, bad diet, stress even, and their subsequent effect on hair.”
As part of that enlightening process, Racoon is delighted to have a hair guru of Iain’ s calibre give the thumbs-up to its system. After his rigorous testing, we are able to say our extensions are scientifically proven not to damage hair, that our bonds are easy to apply and quick to remove, leaving no trace or residue – the most effective system on the market today. And to equip you to professionally address some frequently asked client questions, here are the definitive answers, direct from the expert.
Can extensions damage the hair?
Racoon’ s extensions are scientifically proven not to damage hair; the bonding material does not damage the hair at all. The company’ s products and training system are second-to-none in the extensions market; no one else goes to the extent it does to ensure the health of the clients’ hair and scalp.
Can hair turn grey overnight, in instances of extreme trauma?
There is a grain of truth in this. For example, Anne Boleyn apparently became‘ white overnight’ before her execution. Extreme stress( knowing your head’ s going to be chopped off certainly counts here!) may cause alopecia totalis, where all the hair on the head falls out. To explain, studies have shown white hairs to be more resilient to this auto-immune action, meaning coloured hairs are more prone to fall out, leaving behind the white hairs. Hey presto, you’ ve turned white over night. In reality, it doesn’ t happen this quickly, more like over a few days or a week.
Is it true that if you pull out one grey hair, two will grow in its place?
No, otherwise there’ d be millions of balding people tweezering their thinning hair! If only growing hair back was that simple. This comes from the basic fact that people notice their gray hair more, so the more they try to get rid of them the more they see. Psychologically speaking it’ s called the spotlight effect.
Does brushing thinning hair make it fall out quicker?
On the whole – no. For general hair thinning, which is the most common problem facing women, the resting part of the hair cycle stays the same, between six weeks and four months, depending on the person. Which means when a hair‘ dies’( for want of a better word) it will still take up to four months for it to be dislodged. So there is a time lag( if you will) between the death of a hair and when the person sees it fall out. So any hair dislodged by brushing actually died a long time ago and cannot be affected by what you do to it now.
