Led by Mac Donald, the team had to ensure that installation of
the project was according to regulatory standards, both in terms
of system design and fresh produce handling requirements
– including those of the Estate. They managed to stay within
budget, maintain cold room temperatures as specified and upon
completion of installation, and provide training for employees
on site.

Rederberg Estates sought a reliable
and sustainable energy efficient
refrigeration system to cool its produce
during the post-harvesting process.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
The new refrigeration system comprises of multiple types of
rooms. The three pre-cooling/de-greening rooms designed to
cool down 270 bins of mangoes from 30⁰C to 6⁰C in 48 hours and
de-green citrus and mangoes. The Steri room is designed to pull
down 30 pallets of citrus fruit from 30⁰C to -0.6⁰C in 24 hours and
keep it for a further 48 hours in the cold sterilisation protocol,”
