REGION UPDATES Region I Update CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT, Non-US Locations Region II Update DE, NJ, NY, PA, PR, VI by Linda Nanni, CNM, MSN by Anne Gibeau, CNM, PhD T he ACNM 58th Annual Meeting in Nashville was a great success! The number of registrants exceeded expectations and the content was exceptional; the national office and Program Committee continue to raise the bar on the quality of our Annual Meetings. I hope to see many of you in Denver next year! Thank you to all the affiliate leaders who attended the leadership workshop and/or the affiliate luncheon held in Nashville. These venues were organized to provide information and networking opportunities to help leaders enhance their ability to lead an effective ACNM affiliate. I hope you all found them worthwhile and look forward to any feedback on how to improve for next year. I also extend my thanks to everyone who came to the Region I meeting, which was attended by more than 50 participants, including new midwives—always a heartwarming group to interact with. We had a chance to meet new CNMs/CMs in our region, catch up with old friends, and hear about the work of our affiliates. We also discussed the plan to restructure the ACNM regional system, which was approved by the Board of Directors. The restructure will bring New York and Puerto Rico into Region I as of next year’s Annual Meeting, and will mean that after I finish out this last year of my second term as Region I representative, Anne Gibeau (NY), who is in her first year as representative for Region II, will become our Region I representative for the remaining 2 years of her term. She has lived in New England in the past and is looking forward to representing us! Read about the upcoming changes on page 29. Congratulations are in order for Linda Hunter (RI), who was inducted at the Annual Meeting as an ACNM fellow. She is active on the American Midwifery Certification Board and the Journal of Midwifery & Women’s Health. She also serves as the Rhode Island Affiliate president and has served as the past Vermont Chapter chair. I would also like to recognize Jan Weingrad Smith (CT) who was nominated to the National Breastfeeding Research Consortium. Thank you for representing ACNM. Our fall Region I meeting will be hosted by the Massachusetts Affiliate on October 12, with more details to follow. It will be time to learn, connect with old friends, network, and relax a bit. I hope to see you all there! As always, please feel free to contact me at any time
