want to begin with a huge thank you to the Tennessee Local Program Committee and host volunteers, the National Program Committee, ACNM staff, and event planners for an outstanding job at the ACNM 58th Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Nashville. You all went above the call of duty. Well done! For the first time in 3 years, we had a member from each of our region’s states at the affiliate leadership meeting. Our regional meeting had its highest-ever attendance. Region III also gained 4 new ACNM fellows: CNMs Sharon Bond, Maria Valentin-Welch, Julia Phillippi, and Angela Wilson-Liverman. I met with affiliate leaders Victoria Burslem and Kate Fouquier from Mississippi, Georgia Affiliate president Sarah Owen, and Louisiana members Mary Alice De Coursey, Esther Dejong, Gretchen Deeves, and Cathy Badeaux for an update on our national microsite materials and how best to utilize these web resources. I plan to spend more of my time and energy on these western-most affiliates. Special thanks to outgoing South Carolina president, Nichole Wardlaw, CNM, who has served for the past 6 years. Alternating meetings around the state, she has worked tirelessly to rejuvenate participation in the organization and to find common ground with the other midwives in the state. There’s a new birth center in Arkansas, and they have had their first birth. Thanks also to Rebecca Fay, CNM, for your time and energy to help the leadership in this state re-energize. Maria Valentin-Welch, CNM, completed her 3-year term as chair of the Midwives of Color Committee and has passed the baton to Heather Clarke, CNM. During her term she has revitalized the committee and helped initiate the newly launched Caucus for Friends of MOCC and Ethnic Diversity Caucus— the caucus that Nichole Wardlaw will now be chairing. Maria has been elected to the Nominating Committee, joining Pamela Reis, CNM, and bringing the number of Region III members on this committee to 2. In August, I will be joining Florida Affiliate leaders Denise Henning, Mary Kay Collins, and affiliate president Mary Kaye Miller in meeting with ACOG District XII leadership about our ongoing efforts with collaboration, vicarious liability, and supervision status as well as hospital privileging. Then Tampa, FL, will host Midwifery Works! 2013, October 3-6. Midwifery Works! is the new and improved joint meeting of the Midwifery Business Network and the Directors of Midwifery Education. I hope many of you will plan to attend. If you run a midwifery practice or hope to one day, this meeting is for you. Finally, I want to congratulate my practice partner Stephanie Bonhaus on the birth of her son Ulysses.?
