First Aid Kits
How is your first aid kit looking? Does it have all that you need for your activities?
First Aid kits are very specific to our types of hazards like slips and trips and sprains!
In case of an accident Leaders must provide a first aid kit for all activities, including those at the hut. When did you last check your first aid kit? Your first aid kit needs to be checked regularly to ensure everything is kept up to date. You may have a District first aid kit in your hut or you may have a Unit first aid kit.
It has been asked whether we need to provide a first aid kit when hiring the hut to third parties. While many huts have one which must be maintained for Districts, it is not a requirement for us to provide first aid kits or first aiders for anyone hiring our hut. This is because they have different needs to us as they are doing different activities. Just have a look at your standard Hirers Agreement to hire the hut for an event and make sure it requests that they bring their own.
Qualifications
Are your qualifications and refreshers up to date? I know it’ s a requirement of our Guiding position but it is much more than that. Keeping our first aid skills and knowledge current can save a life at Guides and outside. I have been first aider twice this year and I was just walking or driving by. I was so appreciative of my current skills and knowledge and knew what do it.
For any of you that are fans of apps on your phone, there are some great First Aid apps that you can download. They come in very handy when you are on the spot.
Remember, if you need to talk risk management, just contact your District Leader, Region Leader or State Risk Management representative.
