28 Un almuerzo en Caracas
Interpersonal Speaking
During lunch with a friend in Caracas, you discuss your plans for the week. Talk about some
things you want to do, ought to do, have to do, or prefer to do each day this week. Make the
conversation realistic by politely interrupting one another, asking for things to be passed to you,
and commenting on things and people you see. Use the word bank to help you get started.

29 En el restaurante
Interpersonal Speaking
Working in small groups, prepare a short skit by pretending you
are having dinner together in a restaurant in Venezuela. Visit a
Venezuelan restaurant in your community or find one online to
search for information that will make your skit more realistic. Each
member of the group should create at least four statements or
questions, including some of the following: requests for items
at the table, questions about what your friends think and want,
comments about the food, questions about what your friends
have to do during the week, and so on. Be polite (use por favor
and gracias). After you have established your dialogue, present it
in front of the class.
MODELO
Las arepas están buenas.
A: Pásame ese pan y el aceite, por favor.
B: Aquí tienes. ¿Qué piensan de aquellas arepas?
C: Están muy buenas, pero esta sopa necesita un
poco de sal.
Comunidades
A great way to learn about food from other cultures and to practice your Spanish is
to visit an ethnic restaurant in your community. If that is not possible, investigate
one in a nearby community and visit their website, or search for a restaurant
online in your Spanish-speaking country of choice. Peruse the specials, the menu,
customer reviews, and any other available information.
