Adjectives as Nouns

Frequently colors are used as adjectives in Spanish, that is, to describe something. In those
cases, a definite article is not required. When a color is used as a noun, the definite article is
required, just as with other nouns in Spanish.
Compré unas botas rojas para mi hermana.
I bought a pair of red boots for my sister.
but:
Me gusta el (color) rosado.

I like (the color) pink.
Sometimes an item being described may be omitted in order to avoid repetition. In such cases
the definite article remains, and the adjective (in this case the color) must agree with the noun
that was omitted.
¿Te gusta la blusa azul o la (blusa) morada?
Compré el traje gris, no el marrón.
Do you like the blue blouse or the purple one?
I bought the gray suit, not the brown one.
