ENVIRONMENT IN FOCUS audit score, the ASPASA auditors utilise the opportunity of the assessment to include awareness and best practice training. The ‘system’ audit is conducted by Colleen Cluett, who has conducted close to 300 such audits in the industry to date. The system audit has been based on ISO 14001 since 2008 and has been adapted to cover the requirements of the South African surface mining industry. In 2017, it was updated to conform to the latest version of ISO 14001- ISO 14001:2015. With all members audited against this version in that year. The ASPASA About Face Audit and ISHE safety and health audits have, over the years, demonstrated a significant and continued performance improvement in the scores obtained by all participating members as summarised in the graphic and table below. Typically the ASPASA About Face audit finishes at about 17:00. Following a close- out meeting, the auditees are given a CD that contains copies of a variety of relevant information and documents including the full training session. Alan is also registered as a PrSciNat in the categories Environmental Scientist and Geological Scientist. He is a fellow of the Institute of Quarrying and a life member of the Geological Society of South Africa and has more than 37 years of experience in the aggregate and cement industry. Colleen Cluett holds a BSc in Ecology and Zoology and BSc Honours and a MSc in Ecology.
