Heavy hitting SANY excavator is a GEM
economy and is an integral part of SANY’s
strategy to source only the best and most
cost-effective components for its equipment.
For example, Kawasaki pumps are also used
to ensure constant hydraulic flow.
In addition, the SY750 features a
self-diagnostic system that flags any
technical issues quickly, therefore reducing
downtime. The standard warranty allows
for care-free digging for the first year-
and-a-half, or 3 000 hours, whichever is
achieved first.
The SY750 has a maximum digging depth
of 7 620mm and a maximum excavating
distance of 12 050mm. The maximum
digging height is 11 200mm, while the
maximum dumping height is 7 250mm.
It has a 7m boom and a 3m arm, which
translates into a bucket digging force of
402kN and an arm digging force of 345kN.
While the SANY brand is fairly new
in the mining industry in South Africa,
especially in surface mining, Steenkamp
expects the addition of the SY750 to allow
GEM to offer complete solutions for its
mining customers, no matter the size
of the operation. Commenting on the
prevailing business environment for mining
equipment, Steenkamp points out that
more work is becoming available, which
means that product demand is expected to
increase.

Pump manufacturer KSB Group has
developed a special impeller to further
improve the suction characteristics of its
Movitec multistage high-pressure pumps.
Believed to be the largest excavator in
Africa has been launched by Goscor Earth
Moving (GEM) – the official distributor
of SANY. The SY750 is a primary loading
tool for the opencast mining industry, from
quarries to alluvial diamond mining.
The 750t excavator is ideal to load
blasted material onto articulated dump
trucks (ADTs), as well as for stripping top
soil and free digging. Andre Steenkamp,
general manager of the SANY range under
GEM, explains that with a 4.2m3 bucket a
40t ADT can be loaded in less than seven
passes. “This is a highly affordable, large
excavator.”
The second unit to be imported from
China by GEM has already been pre-sold
prior to delivery. In addition, a major
Zambian copper mine has ordered four
units on a trial basis, with an additional six
units ordered. “The SY750 will definitely
carve a niche for itself in the market, due
to its reliable power source and impeccable
back-up from GEM,” Steenkamp notes. The
Isuzu 6WG1X engine delivers a maximum
torque of 2 138Nm at 1 500rpm. “The
excavator has sufficient horsepower to get
the job done quietly and efficiently and,
perhaps most importantly, without breaking
the bank.”

pressure
The new impeller is useful in applications with
critical inlet conditions.
The new impeller is useful in applications
with critical inlet conditions such as boiler
feed applications, as well as applications
in which the pump is required to take in
water from low-lying tanks or at higher
temperatures. These conditions are not
always suitable for standard pumps, as
pressure drop in the intake area can cause
cavitation in the first pump stage, resulting
in excessive wear of pump parts or motor
bearings as well as a reduced service life
of the pump due to damaged parts and an
unbalanced hydraulic system.
The new impeller is offered as an
alternative to the standard product. When
developing the new impeller, KSB’s design
engineers ensured it can be used with
a number of Movitec variants without
necessitating modifications to the outer pump
casing. The new impeller features a modified
inlet diameter, vanes that allow a slightly
diagonal throughflow and a newly designed
stage casing, all of which serve to substantially
improve the pump’s NPSH curve.
The multistage centrifugal pumps from
KSB’s Movitec range are designed for
handling fluids such as water, coolants,
condensate and mineral oils. They are ideal
for a wide variety of applications ranging
from industrial boiler feed installations
in steam circuits, recirculation and fire-
fighting systems, cooling water circuits
and washing plants to pressure boosting in
general process applications.
