From the Editor’s Desk
Welcome to the Winter
edition of Q-Golf Online
Queensland is at it again: producing
world-class golfers. This time it was
Adam Scott, although a multiple winner
on tour, it was his first US Masters
victory. As journalist Bernie Pramberg
put it, ‘at last, an Australian would wear
the coveted green jacket’. Or should we
put that ‘a Queenslander’!
Championship and over the next few
years the course will be revamped to
make it one of the best tournament
facilities in the country. Journalist
Bruce Young looks at what was involved
in appointing a designer for the
redevelopment and the challenges they
face in reaching the deadline.
We certainly won’t be resting our
laurels on this recent success. In this
edition of Q-Golf Online we catch up
with the talented White sisters, Nadine
and Stacey, who both found a spot on
the Queensland teams for the Interstate
matches. Our State teams did extremely
well this year with wins for the Boy’s,
Girl’s and Men’s teams and a third for
the Women, who only lost one match in
the Series.
Another key tournament in the State
is the Isuzu Queensland Open, back
on the calendar for 2013. We’ve been
scouring the history books to find Adam
Scott’s name on the trophy, but to no
avail. Of course we proudly claim the
likes of Queenslanders Greg Norman,
Peter Senior and Ian Baker-Finch on the
winners list.
The Golf Queensland team has also
been around the State working with
some of the rising stars at the Advanced
Junior Clinics. It’s great to see some
fresh and enthusiastic golfers eager to
see their names on the leader boards of
the future.
Again we feature an industry volunteer.
This important role is vital for the
industry and journalist David Newbery
finds out just why Terry Ward has
dedicated 50 years of service.
Will your name be etched on the
TB Hunter Cup? Details for Isuzu
Queensland Open pre-qualifying events
on Monday, August 19 will be released
shortly. Visit www.golfqueensland.org.au
