From the Editor’s Desk
Welcome to the Summer
edition of Q-Golf Online
As a proud Queenslander it is pleasing to
see our State shining in the golf arena.
Professionals Adam Scott and Peter Senior
have this summer flown the maroon
flag winning the Talisker Australian
Masters and Emirates Australian Open
respectively.
Smith who was joined by the elite of
world amateur golf from countries such
as Korea, Japan and Taiwan. But it was
the representatives from places such
as Mongolia, Iran, Nepal, Lebanon and
Cambodia that make the tournament a
truly special event.
Fellow Queenslander Matt Guyatt led
the Masters field for the first two days
after incredible rounds of 65 and 69 to
finish tied 10th behind Scott. Despite
fading over the final few days, Matt’s
calm nature and composure didn’t go
unnoticed. Bernie Pramberg caught up
with Matt after the Masters to discover
behind his smile is a family man battling
a recent health issue.
The Queensland Sport Awards are always
an indication the year is coming to an end.
I was fortunate to be at the evening which
saw Barry Shepherd being presented
with the highly esteemed Service to Sport
Award for 2012. Barry has provided a
long and distinguished voluntary service
to the administration of the sport of golf
not only for his home state of Queensland
but also at the national level. On behalf
of Golf Queensland I would like to
congratulate Barry for this Award.
Family is an important aspect of our sport,
particularly when on tour. Matt Cooper
often finds himself alongside a family
member at a tournament and shares
some of the anguishes they go through
watching from the sidelines.
Golf Queensland welcomes Clubs and
Districts to send through their stories
and this next yarn was just how we
came across it. Still on the family note,
Oxley members the Leasos have found
2012 rather lucky. Tony Durkin checks
in with the family who have recorded a
remarkable 40 per cent strike rate this
year on Saturday competitions.
Bruce Young recently enjoyed the
opportunity of experiencing the Asia
Pacific Amateur Championship which
was played just outside of Bangkok. The
tournament has a strong following as it
provides the winner with the opportunity
to play at the coveted Masters at Augus ф
