Greg De Rosa is a favourite of the GMA Conference
his background as the general Manager as such
clubs at the Olympic Club in San Francisco and the
Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver providing his
with an extensive background. He is now the GM
and CEO at the stunning Roaring Fork Club near
Aspen.
De Rosa talked about the Induction and Education
of Board Directors at a Golf Club and the need for
General Managers to educate Board members on
the various operations of the Golf Club
“The quicker you get Directors immersed into the
culture, operations, and expectations of Board
service and club operations, the sooner they can
be productive (not destructive) assets to you and
your club’s future,” said De Rosa.
He also emphasised the need for a GM to get to
know his Board members and understand their
goals and objectives and to introduce the Board to
the respective heads of departments and
other staff.
These were but a few of the outstanding speakers
who presented on a wide range of topics and
by week’s end there was a consensus that the
conference had been one of the best in the history
of the GMA.
So if you see or hear you General Manager
showing renewed enthusiasm or perhaps engaging
with you in and around the clubhouse on a more
regular basis it may be that you can put this down
to the inspiration he or she gained while attending
the conference.
Even in my role as an MC or Facilitator there was
plenty to learn, so in two years’ time, when the GMA
Conference is staged in Adelaide, investing time
and money in the education of your GM is well
worth consideration and support and will almost
certainly end up being beneficial for not only the
GM but your club overall.
