Smith hits his approach to the 18th during the Isuzu Queensland Open.
polite to everyone and try not to make
any enemies,” he said.
Cameron Smith might be a rookie
professional, but he already has a fan
base that includes one very high profile
sports person. Kangaroos, Maroons and
Melbourne Storm captain Cameron Smith
is a fan and even tipped him to win the
Isuzu Queensland Open at Brookwater
last month.
“Then he’ll go to the Web.com Tour
qualifying school and we’ll see what
happens from there. The first thing
he needs to do is find some sort of
employment (tour) to find out where he is
going to be playing.
“If everything goes to plan that is where
he’ll be next year, but if it doesn’t it’s just
a matter of time and it will happen at
some stage. I think Cameron is more than
good enough to success, but we need to
be patient.”
“How can I not support my namesake,”
he said. Still, golfer Smith reciprocated by
saying: “I am a big fan of his.”
Smith is hoping to receive invitations
to play in Australia’s bigger events later
this year. As the Australian amateur
champion, he must have a good chance
of being included in the Australian
Open field. Then it’s back to the US for
qualifying school at the end of the year.
Field said he understood Smith would
receive invitations to play the
Australian Open and the Australian
PGA Championship.
