From the Editor’s Desk
Welcome to the first edition
of Q-Golf Online for 2012!
The year is just getting started and March
is shaping up to be a busy month with
Golf Queensland holding four events.
In addition we will be recognising the
success of 2011 with the Queensland
Industry Awards to be held on March 13.
The highlight this month will be the
Queensland Golf Forum at the Victoria
Park Golf Complex, also on March 13. We
have secured prominent Australian golfer
Jack Newton as guest speaker and have
arranged a comprehensive presentation
line up.
Club executives, PGA professionals and
club volunteers will benefit from the
range of topics set to be covered. Ensure
you register early to secure your spot as
this event is sure to be a sell-out.
This month we feature some of the golf
industry’s behind the scene supporters.
Clowry Kennell from Murgon is a strong
supporter of Indigenous golf and in the
lead up to the Queensland Indigenous
Golf Championships journalist Bernie
Pramberg takes some time to talk with
this colourful character.
Andrea Davis is also someone who is very
much working at the grassroots. David
Newbery highlights her passion for junior
golf and how she became a community
golf coach.
In fact Andrea is joined by another golfer
we feature this month who has come back
from injury to get involved with the game
that brings so many people from all walks
of life together. Rosita Van Kuilenburg
found the Women’s Golf Network brought
her confidence in learning the sport in a
relaxed and welcoming environment.
Last year will always be remembered for
the devastation the floods and cyclones
brought to the state. In this edition of
Q-Golf Online journalist Bruce Young
profiles some of the courses that were
affected by Cyclone Yasi and checks to see
how they have recovered one year on.
As we go to press more flooding is hitting
the state, perhaps not as wide spread but
equally as devastating for those affected.
No doubt more stories will emerge of how
volunteers banded together as a result of
this event.
Grant Garrison continues to make us look
beyond the comfort zone and this month
he discusses a recent study that has come
out of America. At the recent US PGA Golf
Show Jack Nicklaus unveiled his plans that
will make the game more relevant in our
fast paced world.
We don’t always have to agree with
the research or the methods of
implementation but it’s good to see the
industry looking for ways to get more
people playing more golf.
Each quarter we try and capture as much
news from around the state and welcome
your suggestions for future stories. Email
