Every human is a complex and miraculous biological computer with infinitely complex programming. The basis of that encoding, and what we understand of ourselves, is influenced through the five senses of life. Our senses translate information from our world and into our being like the parts of a computer system. Consider the diagram below as a rudimentary description of the human “CPU.”
Kabbalists use the Hebrew word Kli (“vessel”) to describe a Creature. Into this computer, the input of sight, smell, taste, hearing and touch enter the programming of the creature through sensors (eyes, nose, tongue, ears and skin). As designed, these sensors filter the information with the creature only receiving a portion of the unlimited knowledge from its Creator. With these restrictions the Kli then has to compute that limited input. Investigation into the programming of the Kli typically leaves a mystery of lack within the Creature – that there appears to be something missing from the input it has received. In turn, we only develop part of the equations and algorithms to help us perform proactively in our world. We are missing a variable, or some important element to solve for “Why.” When the programming begins to seek out more, there is a desire within the soul (Kabbalists call this “the point within the heart”) that begins to grow, seeking out more awareness.
This silent and peaceful “Eureka!” moment is when the Kli realizes the development of an additional opening through which that mystifying knowledge can be obtained. This upgrade to our sensors (Kabbalists call this the “screen”) is the installation of a spiritual sixth sense. It is important to clarify that this new sense is not the conventional “sixth sense” that society ascribes to the skills that mediums and alpha humans use. These seemingly additional talents are only an enhanced or a heightened awareness of the environment through the basic core senses. Development of this spiritual sense/screen allows us to bond with (become closer or more like) the Creator. Suddenly a gateway to the spiritual realms opens slowly and the knowledge of and knowledge from the Creator enters in directly. At this point we start to solve the equation and improve our inner programming.
Reprogramming the Kli
“The vitality of every spiritual matter is the value of knowing it.”
(Baal HaSulam, Letter No. 17)
If there is an inexhaustible desire to change the programming of the Kli, then this spark will allow the soul to grow becoming one with the Creator. Through analysis of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life (the inner code of our internal computer) we can re-program the self and receive the Light into our being through the screen. Applying to our lives the understandings of each sphere (sefirot) and path (lesson) between them allows someone to feel that initial desire of the Creator within our waking existence – pure joy and delight.
