With its 2026 reaccreditation review, the Public Works Department marked 25 years of continuous accreditation by the American Public Works Association( APWA) that was capped by a perfect 100 % compliance score.
The City and Mattamy Homes officially opened Stars and Stripes Park with a public ceremony and celebration on June 4. The 26.5-acre park located on Village Parkway is a vibrant mix of green spaces, scenic ponds and themed art installations designed to honor veterans and first responders.
The City recently received funding in the amount of $ 44,000 for the SE Lyngate Drive and Veterans Memorial Parkway Tree Planting Project to restore shade, improve drainage and strengthen neighborhood character. Funds came from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Urban and Community Forestry- Inflation Reduction Act.
Upcoming Events Juneteenth stands as a powerful reminder of the emancipation of African Americans in the United States. The community is invited to honor this historic milestone during Juneteenth: A Celebration of Unity on Friday,
June 19. The event will be dedicated to reflection and education, and we’ ll also be honoring Opal Lee, the Grandmother of Juneteenth. This free event is 5 to 7:30 p. m. at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center.
As we celebrate America’ s 250th birthday this year, there’ s lots of star-spangled fun planned for our annual Freedomfest event on Saturday, July 4. There’ s the first-ever Freedomfest 5K that morning, and at night, join us for kids’ activities, food trucks and musical headliner Max Weinberg. New this year, the Luna Lights Drone Show, which will be followed by the always-spectacular fireworks show. Freedomfest is 5-9 p. m. at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center.
Grandparents Night: Christmas in July is back and it’ s time to celebrate. Kids ages 2-12 will enjoy music from our DJ, festive face painting, fairy hair sparkle and a photobooth for summer holiday memories. The event takes place 4-6 p. m. Saturday, July 11 at the Community Center.
