The current legislation allows EU citizens to live in the United Kingdom as jobseekers , therefore allowing them to apply for Job Seekers Allowance and other benefits . Under Mr Cameron ’ s plans , a statutory presumption will be created to ensure that after 6 months an EEA national can no longer retain their status as a job seeker or retained worker and continue to claim benefits , unless they can demonstrate they have actively sought work throughout that period and have a genuine chance of finding work . Some changes are also likely to affect the health system , as the government wants to curb the so called “ health tourism ”.
