What is the most effective way to encourage cross-generational interaction and collaboration in the workplace? Initially, communication is the tool that should be used to foster collaboration and encourage cross-generational interaction. 1. Direct, honest and respectful communication is best. 2. Arrange opportunities for them to interact with the other generations individually and as a team.
3. Arrange mentoring and coaching between each group. Offer opportunities to be team leaders. This allows knowledge and skill sets to be transferred between generations.

Some contend that the idea of generational differences at work is a myth. Can you cite current and reliable research that supports claim that generational difference is alive in the workplace? [ William ] Strauss’ and [ Neill ] Howe’ s Generations: The History of America’ s Future, 1584 to 2069, which traces back generational differences into the 1600s, is the seminal volume on this. These academic historians claimed that social context
influences values. Growing up in different eras yields groups of people who value things differently.
Another study was conducted by Dr. Jean Twenge, a professor of psychology at San Diego State University and author of Generation Me. She and her colleagues recently published a study in the Journal of Management where they analyzed a comprehensive data set consisting of ratings of workplace values by high school seniors in 1976( Baby Boomers), 1991( Generation X), and 2006( referred to as GenMe in the study and also known as Generation Y, or Millennials). Twenge suggests that managers and human resource practitioners [ should ] really take the time to understand actual differences in work values versus myths, and develop strategies accordingly.

● Consider the generational values at risk.
