Each department also has at least one CSS designee. Glen Ivy makes it very easy for their staff to be involved by paying all the expenses related to the program and leading formal group classes facilitated during working hours. “We believe the value is in the group format, not individual study,” Root says. “We see a new level of confidence, engagement and a sense of camaraderie with others across the different departments in the company.” Jeff Kohl, COO of Elizabeth Arden Resort Spas, launched their CSS program in March of this year. Kohl believes the CSS program is a great asset to their group. “The opportunity to bring education of this level to our team is vital to our philosophy of growing their careers through education and training,” he says. They will begin the program with all of their general managers taking the exam at the 2012 ISPA Conference in October. Immediately following, they will offer the program to their entire team. “Everyone who works within our company is encouraged to grow their career though educational programs like the CSS,” Kohl says. Who is Eligible to Take the CSS exam? PLAN 1. You are currently employed in a CSS qualifying position1 with at least three months of full-time experience in one or more such positions and have completed the Supervisory Skill Builders for Spas series (available in the ISPA shopping cart). PLAN 2. You are not currently employed in a CSS qualifying position. However, you understand that if accepted in the CSS program, you will have six months from the time that you have successfully completed the CSS test to secure full-time employment as a qualified supervisor in the spa industry and to have held one or more such positions for a minimum of three months.
