Community Partnerships
As more consumers turn their focus to the
importance of health and environmental
issues, the hospitality industry has seen a
trend in supporting and buying from local
small businesses. Spas, too, have begun to
partner with local farmers and growers to
obta in fresh produce and products for their
food and treatment menus. Results from
the September Snapshot Survey found that
44 percent of all spa respondents partnered
with a local business in 2012.
Referring back to Sea Island Resorts,
The Cloister Spa, Mastrianni says that the
spa partners with a local bee keeper who
provides honey that complements their hot
teas and several spa treatments.
The Spa at Laguna Cliffs, located in
Dana Point, California, recently formed a
partnership with a local farm that is only
15 minutes away from the resort. They
incorporate the farm’s fresh, organically
grown herbs, vegetables, honey and more
into the spa’s treatments. In regards to
current offerings, Spa Director Jessica
Timberlake says, “We are currently working
with sea salt, rosemary, sage-infused
honey, mango-honey, cinnamon and avocados for our farm-to-table spa treatments.”
