TRENDS & RESEARCH Wellness Shift A Look at How Spas Can Keep Up with Change By Anna Bjurstam Much of today’s research points to a spa industry that is in the midst of change. We are seeing more and more spas adding “wellness” to their names, paving the way to a “spa and wellness” merger. But it’s not only in the spa industry that we see the “wellness shift.” For one, data from the Global Spa & Wellness Summit’s May 2010 report called Spas and the Global Wellness Market: Synergies and Opportunities, shows direct market interactions with three wellness sectors (i.e. Fitness, Beauty & Anti-Aging, and Healthy Eating/Nutrition & Weight Loss) with the core spa industry. According to the report, all these sectors are part of “The Wellness Cluster” (see graph).
