ach year, members of the International SPA Association are
encouraged to apply to serve on the Board of Directors and
govern the mission and vision of the association. As co-chairs
for the 2012 ISPA Nominating Committee Sharilyn
Abbajay and Frank Pitsikalis have served on the ISPA Board for a
number of years and share their insights on the Nominating Committee
and applying for the board of directors.
PULSE: Why is it important to serve on the ISPA
Board of Directors?
Abbajay: In collaboration with a diverse group of industry
leaders that share the same interest, commitment and values,
serving the greater global spa community, and delivering a difference is the reason I believe it is so important to serve on
the ISPA Board of Directors.
Pitsikalis: I feel it is so

industry is extremely rewarding. It provides an opportunity to amplify the voice of our
members and serve our industry with the best research, education and networking opportunities for shared success.
P: How did you join the Nominating Committee and
become co-chairs?
P: Each year, the ISPA Chairman makes a recommendation to
the ISPA Board of Directors on the members of the nominat-
ing committee including the co-chairs. This year we are fortunate enough to share the committee with: Cathy Cluff, Jean
Kolb, Jim Root, Jane Segerberg and Deborah Waldvogel.
A: The ISPA Board then approves the Nominating Committee
for the following year per the ISPA By-laws, the co-chairs consist
of two current board members not seeking re-election.
P: Who can apply to be on the ISPA Board of directors?
A: Any primary or secondary members of ISPA are eligible to
serve on the board.
P: How many new board members are elected to the
ISPA Board each year?
P: One third of the ISPA Board rotates off of the board every
year. There is no set number of board members that are added
each year; however, the ISPA Bylaws do specify in Article VI,
Section 1 The Board of Directors shall consist of no fewer
than twelve (12) nor more than twenty-two (22) persons
including the President, who shall be a Director ex-officio
without the right to vote. The President shall not be counted
for purposes of a quorum. Lynne McNees serves as President
or Chief Staff Officer.
