community, and having frequently visited the farm as a child, he wanted to connect with the land and his heritage.
When they got settled in, Matt went to work with Davis Heating and Air, and Brooke decided she needed something that would suit her passion for coffee and entrepreneurship, and something that would also fit her schedule.
" I needed something flexible because of the kids," she said.
She went right to it and educated herself in her new business and put the pieces into place.
" I have learned so much about coffee since starting this," said Brooke. " I love the challenges that go into it."
She said she sources her products as much as possible locally, and has her beans roasted in Paintsville, Ky., at Kentucky Mountain Coffee.
" It makes a world of difference in the taste of the coffee," she said.
She also uses local professional baking business The Yummy Shack for her pastry treats.
Her customer friendly approach opens her up to suggestions from customers regarding flavor ideas they might have. " I will take it and run with it," she said. Brooke also likes to give back to the community and one recent way she has done that with the Cumberland Roots Coffee truck is sponsoring a " homestead for veterans " organization called the Bluegrass Veterans Ranch, which builds small homes for veterans.
" We like doing things like that for the community, and giving back is very important," said Brooke.
The public can keep an eye out for the Cumberland Roots Coffee truck at many area events and locations, including Somernites Cruise and a food truck championship festival in Mt. Vernon again this year.
Brooke said she will also set up at places like Ross and Bealls in Somerset across from Wal-Mart, and also makes herself available for special events including weddings, corporate events, anniversaries, baby showers, birthday parties, graduation parties, just to name a few.
And about that prize-winning beverage, the Peanut Butter Cookie Latte, the description says it all: made with real peanut butter, cookie butter syrup, topped with cinnamon, and with optional whip cream or cold foam on top.
Another top-reviewed coffee drink is the Brown Sugar Blast, which includes four shots of espresso and real brown sugar.
Brooke said they also do frappes, and a peanut butter blitz, with real peanut butter, chocolate drizzle, caramel frappe powder, and whipped cream or cold foam.
She also wants folks to know she offers caffeinefree, gluten-free and dairy-free options.
A member of Mill Springs Fellowship Church, Brooke says that her business, like every aspect of her life, is centered in her faith.
" My faith is the first part of my day to day activities with my business," she said.
