" They are the best I ever had!," he crowed.
When Kephart came back to her home state of Kentucky back in 2022, after decades of living on the East Coast, she had her heart set on two things: reconnecting with her father, and living out her dream of starting a restaurant.

cooking just the way it’ s meant to be.
" Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to own a restaurant," said Kephart. " I like to feed people— that ' s my thing!"
When she first started out hunting for a place, Kephart crossed several roads but wasn ' t finding the spot to plant her hen house.
She came across one possible location, but this and that got in the way, and it didn ' t work out.
" I just knew God had a different path for me

when we didn ' t get that first place," she said.
" None of this would be possible without God, and I’ m grateful to Him every day."
Then one day, Kephart came across an old gas station / grocery store, and somehow knew this was just the place to roost.
" We ' re out here in the country," she said. " Just exactly where I want to be!"
Kephart considers her customers like family, even to the point that some specialty dishes

she serves were designed by and named after customers.
Jerry ' s Plate, named after Jerry Wesley, who frequents The Salty Hen with his wife Sandy, includes fresh made beans, greens, taters and maters.
Cody ' s Combo, which includes fried green maters and grilled maters, was named after customer Cody Weedle. And patron Blake Gumm got a 1 / 2 pound chicken sandwich named after him, called The Blake, topped with fresh
