A Local Gem: Discovering The Salty Hen

SHANE MORGAN CJ Contributing Writer
The Salty Hen has quickly become one of Pulaski County’ s most talked-about new dining spots, offering a delicious blend of American favorites and authentic, home-style country cooking— all served with a friendly smile and a healthy dose of downhome humor.
Perhaps the best
example of their downhome humor, the“ Cluck Norris” chicken sandwich is already making waves, drawing attention for its towering size and crave-worthy flavor.
Located at 6521 Ky. 1643, about 10 minutes from Somerset in the scenic White Lily community, The Salty Hen offers— as if Cluck Norris wasn ' t enough— lunch and dinner menus, with
breakfast food options also available all day starting around 11 a. m.
With most menu items made by hand on site, guests can enjoy fresh, authentic home-style cooking just the way it’ s meant to be.
" The main thing is as much fresh as possible," said Christina Kephart, The Salty Hen ' s owner.
The cooks at The Salty Hen patty their own burgers, cut and bread
their own onion rings with an original breading mixture, create their own signature " Henhouse Sauce ", fresh make their own coleslaw, roll their own dumplings at 5 a. m. in the morning, and that ' s just to name a few when it comes to hand-crafted culinary care.
And to beat it all, they slice and bread their own locally-sourced, fresh fried green tomatoes.
Kephart said her dad
The Salty Hen is located in the scenic White Lilly community of eastern Pulaski County, in a building that housed a rustic grocery store in years past.
