THE ONLY GUIDE TO FLOATS THAT... YOU NEED! REPORT BY JANE DOE This article is about freshwater angling floats. For fish- ing net floats, see fishing net. For glass net or dropline floats, see glass float. A float, also called a bobber in the United States, is an item of angling equipment that is attached to the fishing line which serves several pur- poses. Firstly, it can suspend the bait at a predeter- mined depth; secondly, due to its buoyancy, it can carry the baited hook to otherwise inaccessible areas of wa- ter by allowing the float to drift in the prevailing cur- rent; and thirdly, a float also serves as a visual bite indicator. Fishing with a float is called float fishing. 16
