PT Solutions 2014, Vol. 1 Making Unstoppable Happen | Page 3

Matt Eastwood is a physical therapist originally from Milford, Michigan. He graduated from The Honors College at Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology. He received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Central Michigan University. Matt served as the clinic director of PT Solutions at Harbin Clinic for three years. Now, Matt is the area manager for PT Solutions Chicago clinics. Matt lives with his wife, Christine, and son, Urban, in Bolingbrook, IL. -What made you want to become a physical therapist? I grew up playing football and running track--I’ve always been amazed by athletes who perform at such a high level. I was also fascinated by anatomy and human physiology. Through research, observation and volunteer work, I found that physical therapy was a perfect combination of my interests. -What are the most rewarding aspects of your job? Seeing patients who go from very low points in their lives to a state of success and health they never thought they could get to. Making unstoppable happen! -What would you like prospective PT students to know about the profession? That you get out of it what you put in. Health care is changing and being a physical therapist is tough. Long hours, increasing documentation and high expectations are the norm. The physical aspect of the job is challenging; however, mentally, therapists are pushed even more. I see this as a great thing for the profession, because it forces us to be better. The harder you work and the more of yourself you give to the profession, the more rewarding the payoff is! -How has the transition from Georgia to Illinois been? Cold! I loved the time I spent in Georgia. The people of Cartersville, Georgia, are the sweetest people on earth. I learned about southern cookin’, SEC football, and the “how’s your mama” culture. I am originally from the Midwest, so I am familiar with the weather, culture and speed at which things move. The more difficult part of my transition was stepping into the Area Manager role. I have learned more in the eight months I’ve spent in Illinois about motivating people, managing time, healthcare systems, and everything in between, than I have in my previous five years as a therapist. I thank PT Solutions for the personal and professional growth this opportunity has provided. It has been an unparalleled education. -When you’re not working, how do you spend your free time? I love spending anytime outside of work with my wife Christine and our 2 ½ year old son Urban. Seeing him grow, develop and learn is the best part of my day. At this stage it’s something new every day. Christine and Urban have sacrificed tremendously for me and my extended family and any opportunity I have to relax and enjoy time with them I jump at.
