Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful

New Pop-Up Cleanup initiative brings volunteers together for quick litter collections with big impacts
Keep Port St. Lucie Beautiful debuted its Pop- Up Cleanup prototype at the Citizen Summit and asked residents where they would like to see future neighborhood cleanups. From this feedback, KPSLB has been increasing its efforts to do more cleanups throughout the City, focusing each time on a new area or neighborhood.
In March, it held its pilot Pop-Up Cleanup with the City’ s Leadership team in the Sandpiper Bay neighborhood, using Pioneer Park as the meeting place. Thanks to the leadership team’ s participation and input, KPSLB has hosted three more Pop-Up cleanups, two in August and one in November. Fun fact: The leadership team collected 64 pounds of litter during their one-hour cleanup!
KPSLB, in partnership with the Parks and Recreation and Communications departments, has organized Pop- Up Cleanups at Turtle Run and Whispering Pines parks, sending volunteers into the surrounding Cashmere Cove, Oak Hammock, Palm Trails and Whispering Pines neighborhoods, where they collected 194.5 pounds of litter from roadsides, green spaces and swales.
The Love Your Block grant team and KPSLB planned a combined event Aug. 30, hosting a Pop-Up Cleanup from the Park’ s Edge POA Clubhouse in Whispering Pines while other beautification projects of the Love Your Block Grant were underway. Volunteers, many from Treasure Coast High School, collected 98 pounds of litter during this cleanup. www. CityofPSL. com / KPSLB • 772-871-7000 • KPSLB @ cityofpsl. com
