City receives national recognition for engaging with residents
The City of Port St. Lucie was recently awarded the 3CMA Award of Excellence for Resident Participation, which recognizes local governments that create meaningful opportunities for residents to actively engage in shaping their communities. The City was honored for the Naturally PSL initiative.
The award honors innovative approaches that encourage participation, strengthen connections between residents and local government and ensure community voices help inform decisions. It celebrates programs that demonstrate how effective resident engagement can build stronger, more connected communities.
Community Conversations provide public with information on City budget, ballot initiatives
City staff has been out in the community since Sept. 1, meeting residents where they are and answering questions about the City ' s budget as well as major issues appearing on the November ballot. As of the send of September, more than 300 residents had attended these informational sessions.
At each Community Conversations stop, residents have been able to hear directly from subject‐matter experts from the Office of Management and Budget, Public Works, Office of Solid Waste and Communications staff. That includes learning about the City’ s Fiscal Year 2026‐27 budget, how it’ s built, where revenue comes from and how those dollars shape everyday services.
These sessions also unpack the proposed Amendment 3 and what changes to homestead exemptions and property tax caps could mean for local services. Representatives from St. Lucie County have joined as well, helping residents understand the Half‐Cent Sales Tax renewal proposal and the critical road, drainage, water‐quality and sidewalk projects it funds. The final topic is the non-binding straw poll ballot that will provide insight into whether residents would prefer to have twice a week garbage pickup.
With events continuing through the end of October, Community Conversations is giving voters clear, accessible information so they can feel confident and informed heading into Election Day.
