Green River Parkway trail resurfacing project starting construction to enhance recreation, accessibility, community connection
Exciting news for Port St. Lucie residents and trail enthusiasts! Asphalt trail resurfacing and ADA improvements are scheduled for the popular trail located just east of SE Green River Parkway, stretching from Walton Road to the St. Lucie County / Martin County line.
The Green River Parkway Trail, originally constructed in 2006, will be resurfaced starting in the fall. As an integral part of the Florida East Coast Greenway trail system, this rehabilitation will ensure the trail continues to serve the community for years to come.
This project aligns with the City’ s strategic goal of fostering safety and vibrant neighborhoods. Early construction activities, including survey marking and environmental protection measures such as gopher tortoise relocations, are expected to begin as soon as September. Residents could notice these preparations as the City works to minimize the environmental impact and maintain the trail’ s natural beauty.
Funding for this significant improvement comes through a partnership between the City of Port St. Lucie and the Florida Department of Transportation. The scope of work includes milling and resurfacing the entire 10-foot-wide trail; grading and sod restoration; replacement of all ADA facilities; and upgrades to the crosswalk connection at Walton Road. Additionally, the northern end of the project will link to the recently constructed SUN Trail, which winds through the Savannas Preserve State Park, further enhancing connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.
All construction work will take place within the City right-of-way and is anticipated to start in September. The full width of the trail will be resurfaced, providing a safer and more comfortable experience for everyone, from daily walkers and joggers to avid cyclists. The Florida Department of Transportation’ s Local Agency Program( LAP) Grant is helping make these improvements possible, ensuring continued investment in recreational infrastructure.
