As a new school year began, PSLPD officers also were out in the community welcoming back students to the classroom. At Palm Pointe K-8, officers created a Tunnel of Hope, lining the walkway to greet students with smiles, high-fives and words of encouragement as they arrived for the first days of a new school year. The event was a simple but meaningful reminder to students that their local police officers are not only there in times of need, but are also members of the community who are invested in their success and are always ready to support them.
PSLPD also welcomed residents behind the badge through City University, a free, nine-session program designed to give residents an inside look at how their City operates. During the PSLPD portion of the program, Chief Leo Niemczyk provided participants an overview of the department and its commitment to serving Port St. Lucie.
Residents also had the opportunity to learn about specialized areas of the department, including SWAT, the K-9 Unit and Crime Scene Investigations, while seeing specialized equipment up close and engaging directly with members of the PSLPD team. Opportunities like City University allow residents to better understand the people, training, technology and teamwork behind the services they see throughout the community every day.
From honoring a career spanning more than 27 years to encouraging students at the beginning of a new school year and inviting residents to learn more about their police department, this month was a reflection of what it means to serve Port St. Lucie. Each of these moments provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships, build trust and remind the community that PSLPD is proud to serve not only as a police department, but as an active and engaged part of the Port St. Lucie community.
