What NOT to do
• Do not go outside to take photos or videos.
• Do not rely on just one source of information; use multiple alert systems.
• Do not delay sheltering once a warning is issued.
After a tornado
Once the tornado has passed, safety remains the top priority.
• Call 911 for injuries or emergencies.
• Avoid damaged buildings.
• Be alert for hazards such as debris, downed power lines and gas leaks. Leave the area immediately if you smell gas.
If you were impacted:
• Report damages to 1PSL at 772-871-1775.
• Contact your insurance provider to begin the claims process.
• Reach out to the American Red Cross for shelter or support services.
By staying informed, acting quickly and knowing what steps to take before, during and after a tornado, our community can stay safer and recover more smoothly when severe weather strikes. The Office of Emergency Management encourages all residents to stay prepared year round.
