Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins Summer Scholar closes out work
Ayesha Jilani, a Summer Scholar from the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, concluded her 10-week placement with the City in August. Throughout the summer, she has focused on a traffic innovation project, one of the most frequently raised concerns among residents.
She has spent her time conducting in‐depth interviews and engaging with various stakeholders, including multiple City departments involved in traffic management, local residents and City Ambassadors. Her goal was to build a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the current system, which she shared with the Traffic Innovation Team as it continues to identify and refine solutions.
We are grateful to Ayesha for her hard work and to the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University for providing this opportunity to host a Summer Scholar.
Strategic planning process receives global recognition
The International Association for Strategy Professionals recently recognized the City with an Honorable Mention for Strategy Formulation and Strategy Engagement.
The Goodman Award for Excellence in Strategy Committee noted:“ Your submission demonstrated a particularly visionary and inclusive approach to strategy formulation, anchored by the annual Citizen Summit and National Community Survey. With respect to strategy engagement, members of the Committee were highly impressed by your deliberate effort to embed engagement across all levels of the organization, including elected officials. The shift from staff-led presentations to hands-on, collaborative strategic planning sessions involving the full City Council and the Mayor is a notable breakthrough.”
City Council and the Leadership Team work collaboratively each year to respond to resident feedback and develop solutions as part of its strategic planning process using human-centered design. We are grateful for this recognition as we continue to support advancing the City’ s Strategic Plan, centering the voices of residents and involving the entire City team in developing solutions that help move Port St. Lucie forward.
As a result of the recognition, the City has been invited to present its work to the International Association for Strategy Professionals Africa conference, which will be presented virtually and shared as a model for cities across Africa.
Recent grant awards
City departments work collaboratively through the Grants & Advocacy Team, led by the Strategic Initiatives and Innovation team, to support funding for City priorities in alignment with the Strategic Plan. The following grants were recently awarded:
• Children’ s Services Council: Special Event Sponsorship: Funding in the amount of $ 2,000 to provide supplies and accessories for a sensory room at the Independence Day celebration. This room will provide a comfortable environment where attendees can take a reprieve from the festivities. www. CityofPSL. com
