2025 sales tax exemptions on disaster preparedness supplies
Starting Aug. 1, Florida will transition from seasonal hurricane tax holidays to permanent, year-round tax exemptions on essential emergency preparedness items. This improves access and allows residents to prepare any time without extra cost.
By permanently exempting key supplies from sales tax, the law empowers proactive preparedness and enhances community resilience.
Items that will be tax-free throughout the year include:
• AA – D, 6 V, 9 V batteries
• Battery-powered portable generator
• Gas or diesel cans of 5‐gallon gas or less
• Waterproof tarps 1,000-square-feet or less and tie-down kits
• Smoke alarm, carbon monoxide detector
• Fire extinguisher
• Sunscreen and insect repellent
• Life jackets
• Bicycle helmets
Additional items that remain tax-free( under existing laws):
• Bottled water
• First-aid kit
