Let the light shine through
The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season has begun and the Code Compliance Division reminds residents the only instance where storm shutters can be placed on an occupied home is when the area is the path of a named storm.
Leaving a house shuttered creates safety issues for occupants and first responders in the event of a house fire.
Storm shutters may remain on an unoccupied home for the duration of hurricane season( June 1-Nov. 30), but must be removed when the season ends. Code Compliance takes this matter seriously and will follow procedures to achieve compliance, including, but not limited to, issuing code citations to any resident found in violation of the storm shutter ordinance.
