Public Works volunteers for Caring Community Cleanup
The Caring Community Cleanup was a great success and a fun event for our Public Works staff and volunteers.
By partnering with the APWA branch, employees demonstrated their commitment to civic responsibility and environmental stewardship. The cleanup took place April 18 and focused on areas around City Hall, where team members worked diligently to remove litter and beautify public spaces.
Public Works continues to lead by example, inspiring others to join in keeping our City beautiful!
National Work Zone Safety Week observed in April
Each April, the country acknowledges the importance of work zone safety and encourages everyone to reduce speed and remain attentive while passing through these areas. Residents, workers, pedestrians and motorists are all impacted by work zone activity. This week serves as an important reminder for everyone to practice safe behavior on the roadway.
Decisions made behind the wheel can have lasting consequences. The presence of orange cones signals the need to eliminate distractions and proceed cautiously, as every individual deserves to return home safely. Roadway workers face daily risks as they operate in close proximity to traffic and more than 100,000 crashes occur in work zones annually.
Behind every cone is a dedicated professional working to improve our roads and ensure smooth transportation. These incidents are preventable tragedies.
National Public Works Week
In May, the City will celebrate and recognize National Public Works Week. Rooted in service, powered by community, the roots of service run deep in Public Works.
Public Works ' innovations and actions help our communities evolve into places where people can lead lives of purpose and possibility. Some of the work we do is visible( such as road construction) and other contributions are less visible like underground infrastructure. Together, these efforts form the foundation of thriving communities, reminding us that every project, seen or unseen, powers the connection between service and the people it supports.
Don’ t forget to take a moment to thank and recognize a Public Works employee who is working hard every day to improve our community.
